In this article, you’ll learn some tips about how to do positive reinforcement for toy poodles
Positive Reinforcement Training Your Toy Poodles
You may want to give some time to leash training; as Toy Poodles can be quite a little energy ball while walking, despite the leash. And aside from housebreaking and teaching basic commands such as Come, Sit, Stay, etc; you will also devote some time to addressing potential behavior problems such as excessive barking, whining, or chewing on furniture. In this, positive reinforcement can also be used – by rewarding a different behavior instead. For instance, using a chew toy instead of chewing furniture should be rewarded, sitting and waiting quietly rather than barking at the door before it is opened; or peeing and pooping in his designated spot rather than indoors – or elsewhere, for that matter. As with housebreaking, patience and consistency is the key.
All in all, a well trained Toy Poodle can be a joy and a delight to have in the house; but this mainly lies on your efforts to train him. Not only will proper training make for a less stressful household; the time you spend training your dog will also nurture the relationship you have with each other. Just remember to keep it light and fun; if he has had enough of training one day, just return to it the next day. Don’t force him to train – or this will create bad associations. Though for Toy Poodles, their intelligence naturally has them seeking some form of mental stimulation; so making a game or a fun activity of your training sessions will probably be your best bet.
